Volunteering at the Quilt Show Office & Happy 4th!!!

First and foremost it is important to know that the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show is Free.  And certainly we know that the word free is used less and less.  But, it is a wonderful venue in which most quilts can be hung...even if your points don't quite match or you just decided to make an ugly quilt, lol...but, with the wonderful special exhibits you get a truly well round show!  How does a town of approximately 2,000 expand to 10,000...how do over 1,000 quilts get hung in 2 hours all over town making the Sisters Outdoor Show the largest show in the world...how do we entertain for a full week the hordes of quilters that arrive ready for a good time????  VOLUNTEERS!!!  Hundreds of them.  And just so you know...you don't have to live here to volunteer.  Last year I worked with a couple of gals who come down from Alaska every year for the show and volunteer!  Yesterday, one of my fellow volunteers was from Sacramento.

The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show is a nonprofit organization that works very hard to provide wonderful entertainment for quilters and also support the local community.  So, if you have an desire to be a part of the HUGE WHEEL that is needed to pull this show off contact the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and if you are not physically able to volunteer you can still support by becoming a Friend of the Show.

Susan has been a volunteer for years!

Jeanette, the 2014 Sisters Quilt Show Director and Ann, the "retiring" Director are showing off a quilt that will be in the show!

One of the best parts of my Wednesday was volunteering in the Quilt Show Office where the hundreds of quilts arrive...some by mail, some hand carried.  You get to be up close and personal with the quilts!  Each quilt is cataloged and folded in a specific way.  The walls are covered with signs and photos of the various buildings in town.  The Quilt Foreman determines which stack each quilt belongs too...this process just blows my mind.  Enjoy the slideshow, it is a peek into a small portion of what it going on behind the scenes!  Have a Happy 4th, be safe, enjoy the festivities and as I will be doing give thanks to those who protect our lifestyle...both abroad and at home.

  7. Hi Anna, my name is Paige Prescott (at PaigeAlaine.com) and I am so happy to see someone snagged a picture of my quilt - the giant dresden called Cannon Beach -inspired by a trip there! At least now I have proof it made it to the show! Thanks! Can't wait to see the rest of the pictures you took at the show. :)
